Ukiyo-e, also known as Japanese genre painting and printmaking, is a unique national art rising in the Edo era (1603-1867, the Tokugawa shogunate era) of Japan. Ukiyo-e painting reflects secular life, pays attention to sensory stimulation, and has strong artistic characteristics: a more decorative composition, simplified line arrangement, bright colors without mixing, flat colors without shading, and is based on folk life.
Kazuka Kitaksai was born in 1760 in Kazuka Prefecture, Edo, Japan (today's Motian, Tokyo). He started painting at the age of 6, worked in bookstores and rented bookstores as a teenager, and became an apprentice of woodblock prints. At the age of 18, he became a famous Ukiyo-e painting master and aspired to become a painter.
The Shengchuan School is good at drawing beautiful people. After more than ten years of learning skills under his teacher, after the death of Sheng Chuan Chunzhang, Beizhai began to learn from others' strengths, from the "Shouye Sect" that is good at painting plants, flowers, birds and animals to the "Lin Sect" that pays attention to decoration, and extensively studied the technical characteristics of various Ukiyoyo painting sects, as well as Chinese paintings and western paintings. The painting objects have also changed from the traditional Ukiyo-e theme of the beautiful spring palace to the mountain scenery and the daily life of ordinary Japanese working people. However, it was not until Beizhai, who was more than 50 years old, that he really ushered in the golden age of his own creation. He first started the creation of Beizhai Cartoon. This group of prints is the famous Thirty six Scenes of the Rich Prison. After the series of works was published, it was highly sought after and later added ten scenes of "Li Fuji".
