Today, the Rhode Island School of Design has more than 2000 students studying a series of art or design related courses, the most popular of which are photography, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and graphic and industrial design. Most of the students are undergraduates studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree, and the school also offers a master's degree. While obtaining a bachelor's degree, undergraduate students must also major in English, art history, arts or history, philosophy and social sciences. RISD has an international student group, of which the student group comes from about 60 countries.
RSID is based on the urban campus, and the buildings are concentrated around the University Hill in Providence. The campus shares a campus with Brown University. The two institutions work closely to provide joint courses and share social and academic facilities.
