She won the favor of LACM and also won a super high scholarship. What did she rely on? When she learned folk music from an early age, what was the state of music production? Today, we'd like to introduce a student who has transferred from folk music to music production. Dong has a bachelor's degree in music production and was admitted by LACM Los Angeles College of Music at Los Angeles Conservatory of Music with a scholarship of $45000. Surprise interview: different thinking logic and results
LACM Los Angeles Conservatory of Music There is no deliberate distinction between the "audit" and "interview" phases. The whole interview is a free mode. There are 3 interviewers in total: 2 interviewers interviewed and 1 interviewer did not speak during the whole interview.

During the 30 minute interview, the chief interviewer talked with me about my major choices for nearly half the time and recommended Composition for New Media. In this case, my first reaction is to get cold.
Until the teacher introduced and compared the music production I applied for with the composition major he recommended to me, told me the difference between the two majors, the focus of the course study, and sent me the lesson schedule so that I could go back and think about it, I woke up to his sincere help, and at the end of the interview, he said he welcomed me to their school to study.
After that, I also received an email from my teacher asking me which major I would choose to study music in the end.
The most important part: the work collection needs soul
The interviewer listened to my three compositions on the spot. After listening to it, I asked about my inspiration for music, the reason for choosing this major, and my erhu performance.
I submitted 5 works: 2 performance works, 3 original works (2 electronic and 1 orchestral style). I submitted 2 more works, but this is not important. Quantity is not the key, but quality is.
The three original works are Tron, Aerobic and Childhood.
The inspiration of Tron comes from the "super fast car" I played at Disney. The environment it creates is very futuristic, with a sense of technology, and electronic music with a sense of technology. I took the roller coaster as if I had entered a time tunnel. Once you start, you can't turn back. You must play until the end. The thrill of roller coaster setting is like the difficulties encountered, which can only be overcome and can not be retreated. When the game ended, I seemed to absorb a lot of energy. This gave me inspiration, gave me the energy to continue to move forward when I met difficulties in life, and did not shrink back.
Aerobic is a positive song. The whole rhythm is cheerful and aerobic, because I want to convey a positive signal of sunshine.
Childhood has a powerful clip that can make people calm down and think about many scenes and remind people of their childhood memories. This song is based on my childhood and tells about my childhood.
When I was writing, I thought of my childhood. The whole song is also about childhood. There is a magnificent scene that can make people calm down and think of many scenes.
It is critical to tap the potential of folk music when it is transferred to modern music
Although he started to learn erhu at the age of 6, he also knew keyboard and guitar; But I prefer the feeling of being creative and behind the scenes to being on the stage. I can express myself to my heart's content.
Maybe you are a musician like me. You have never made a song or touched anything related to production, but it doesn't matter. It's enough to meet a good teacher. My teacher, Mr. Sun, has always encouraged me. He is very patient. Although my knowledge was not professional and systematic at the beginning, he has been helping me to tap my potential instead of instilling something I don't know.
Gradually, I found that I had the ability to present good things in some aspects, such as the idea of creation, the structure and style of works. More and more confident to create music, to express, to play what they are good at.
Of course, I didn't give up folk music, hoping to realize the intersection and integration of folk music and electronics one day.
Suggestions for younger students
The preparation of the collection of works depends on the quality, not the quantity.
The advantage of using folk music as the main instrument to apply for is that the interviewers can be amazed by the folk music in their own hands. Only by conquering them with professional performance and potential can they feel unexpected gains. Otherwise, applying for folk musical instruments (as unpopular musical instruments) will not get any benefits and will not be competitive.
In terms of learning skills of music production, I think we should develop the habit of listening to more music. This is what I learned from the teachers and students here after I came to ETHOS to study. Listen to a wider range of music styles that you have never heard before. Listen with ideas to get the structure of a piece of music, the timbre used, and the feeling of rhythm. Some elements may also be used in your own works, so add this song to your own song list. Listening more, whether in creation or skill, is a very helpful thing.
