Previously, we have always regarded Parsons Strategic Design and Management as fashion management, but in fact, according to the rigorous statement, There are many differences between it and the real fashion management. In addition, Parsons has finally started to enroll the first batch of students majoring in fashion management in Fashion Management this year. Today, we will talk about Parsons' strategy design and management study abroad courses, faculty, application requirements, etc.

Parsons Strategy Design and Management Course/Teachers/What are the application requirements
Parsons Strategy Design and Management is part of the School of Design Strategy (SDS). Personally, I think the only overlap between the major of Strategic Design and Management (SDM) and fashion management lies in management, which has nothing to do with fashion. We can also see from the introduction on the official website that we hope to train business professionals who can solve business challenges through design, and design practitioners who seek to acquire business and leadership expertise.
In addition, SDM is a two-year Bachelor of Science (MS) discipline. This is also a typical integration Application for interdisciplinary study abroad Profession, integrating the professional fields of design, art and business, cultivates professionals who can provide design, management and consulting services for different types of companies. Because this major is somewhat different from the design discipline we were familiar with before, we can help to understand it through the student works of previous years:

This group of works is a 28 page research report in the form of illustration, aiming at [Sandwich Generation]. The sandwich generation does not refer to a group of people born at a specific time. It is defined as a group of adults who are sandwiched between elderly parents and growing children. This generation has served as the emotional and economic support for their families. The purpose of this report is to help business people easily understand the psychological structure and future needs of this generation as the most powerful consumer group.
Students of Parsons Strategic Design and Management SDM major have a variety of forms of works, including software design for analyzing consumer behavior, research papers, illustrations to introduce brand background, etc., but the purpose is to serve the modern business environment.
curriculum
SDM is a two-year program with four semesters. Because of the nature of this major, many students are on the job themselves, so many evening and online courses are arranged in the course for free combination. It is also worth mentioning that SDM is also known as the hometown of ELab. ELab is Parsons School of Design Parsons is a design oriented business laboratory dedicated to entrepreneurial practice and research.
ELab also provides four elective courses and entrepreneurship scholarships for the major. With Parsons' good business background in the United States and even around the world, ELab can bring students very rich entrepreneurial resources.

We can also see in the course that, except for the first semester, the other three semesters are dominated by studio courses and independent practice projects. Let's take the spring course of the second year as an example. This studio course is an intensive one week course.
In five full working days (8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), the overlap between business and design was discussed. During this period, the student union and teachers participated in several business practice seminars in New York. Students will fully communicate with teachers and students in the form of groups based on their work experience and learning achievements in the seminar, Finally, report in the form of a speech.
Teachers
Parsons is different from the major of Strategy Design and Management and Fashion Management. This course is led by a group of world-class academic teachers who are rigorous academically and pioneers in their respective fields, but the course arrangement is practice oriented.

Interim Program Director—Aaron Fry
Aaron Fry is currently the temporary course director. He is an artist, designer and educator. He has 23 years of full-time experience in the field of design education, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he is also the co-founder of ELab, which has been founded for 20 years.
During Parsons' 20 years, Professor Aaron's main courses include relevant history and theory courses of art and design, as well as basic design and design business courses. Aaron is very good at writing at the intersection of design, business and social science. Many of his academic achievements and publications are also considered as normative documents for financial knowledge education.

Many of the instructors of this course are from the founding team of ELab. In addition to years of academic research experience, they are also business consultants of many well-known enterprises. Therefore, they have a good understanding of the impact of social, political and economic environment on business, and have a very strong ability to solve problems.
