Florida State University School of Music Florida State University College of Music is considered as one of the top music colleges in the United States based on comprehensive universities. Both its undergraduate education and graduate education are quite famous. Its teachers are all from senior scholars, composers or performers in the industry, and are committed to providing the best education to students.


Since its establishment, thousands of music graduates have entered the professional field, becoming public high school teachers, performers, conductors, university professors, music therapists, composers, senior scholars and private music teachers. At present, the school has 750 undergraduate students and more than 400 graduate students from all states of the United States and more than 20 countries and regions. Tallahassee, the city where the Florida Conservatory of Music is located, is located in the narrow corridor in the northwest of Florida, with a population of about 180000. The dormitory is only two minutes away from the Conservatory of Music, where as many as 150 music students attend classes. Piano major


The piano professional courses of undergraduate course include piano music history, chamber music, double pianos, piano accompaniment vocal music, etc. Unlike in China, the piano professional courses of the University of Florida Conservatory of Music, in addition to basic music courses, also have political, humanistic and other courses as required courses.


Music Performance


Under the four-year system, in the first and second years, the courses of double piano and four hand joint playing and piano accompaniment were opened. In the third and fourth years, ensemble and chamber music were opened.


Music Composition


Four years full-time. This major is to complete the creation of music content. All elements in music serve the music content, and each voice part is equal. The course content includes editing and learning texture, musical form, orchestration, speed and beat.


Music Performance


Four years full-time, this major cultivates senior professionals who have certain ability in music performance and can engage in performance, teaching and research in professional art groups, art colleges and other relevant departments and institutions.


Musical Performance


Four years full-time, the main learning contents of this course are musical score learning, singing learning, script/song book learning.

Postgraduate major

Jazz Studies


Courses include jazz history, jazz, improvisation, etc. The school has set up a small music research room and simulation stage for students of this major.


Musicology (Historical Music)


Historical musicology covers a wide range of subjects and needs to learn all the major periods of music in western history. Teachers in historical musicology include a group of outstanding scholars and are top experts in the field of historical musicology. Their teaching contents include historical data, academic editing, performance practice, biography, music narratology and ecological criticism.


Music Opera Production


The teaching purpose of this major is to express a series of pictures in words. Students are required to have ideas about creation and writing and be familiar with writing techniques. Therefore, the course includes classic script analysis and creative writing.

Admission requirements

Graduate applicants

The admission requirements of the conservatory of music exceed the minimum standards of the university. All international applicants whose mother tongue is not English need to provide official English language scores, including those who have studied in English speaking countries for some time.


To enroll, please pass one of the following examinations to obtain the minimum required score:

In addition, to qualify for a postgraduate grant:


Students must obtain a score of at least 26 points in the oral part of IBTOEFL, or 50 points in the SPEAK exam (provided by the FSU) to be eligible for a postgraduate financial aid.

Application Experience

If you are applying for music performance, musical instrument or vocal music, you should first determine your major. After you get the enrollment form, you generally have two choices: one is to record your work (with video), and the other is to go to the United States for an interview in person.
