In 1963, the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp, Belgium, opened a major in fashion design. In the 1980s, due to the popularity of "The Antwerp Six", the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp gradually became the most important international institution of higher learning in fashion design. After 2000, Veronique Bran quinho, Olivier They skens, RafSimons and other designers have achieved remarkable status in the international fashion industry, which has strengthened the international status and influence of the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp, Belgium.
In 1995, The Antwerp Academy and Henry Vande Velde In institute merged to become The University College of Ant werp (Dutch: Hoge school Ant werpen). As a result, the major of art and fashion design is independent, becoming the "Higher Institute of Fine Arts" under the University of Antwerp in Belgium
The Fashion Department of Antwerp Royal Academy of Art was founded in 1963. In the early days, the college mainly focused on art, but under the guidance of Mary Priot and Matthew Van Lecter, it quickly developed into a mature fashion education. Two important milestones have forever changed the history of fashion. First, the rise of the six Antwerp gentlemen are alumni of Antwerp Fashion Department in Belgium. Together with Martin Margiela, these six designers are a group of eccentric designers: they were famous for their opposite views on fashion in the early 1980s and were unwilling to accept what was dominated and restricted by commercial fashion. Their success and reputation in the world is the peak of the vision and methods of the Fashion Department, which has gained international reputation and recognition. Secondly, since 1985, under the leadership of Linda Lopa, the fashion department has entered a new era. She not only emphasized the students' more personal performance, but also emphasized the international direction, especially the boundless conceptual creativity. Because of her, concept education and experimental education have been emphasized. Since 2006, until today, Antwerp Fashion Department has continued to cultivate numerous excellent concept designers under the guidance of Walter van Bellindenk. He is one of the members of Antwerp's Six Gentlemen.
