The metal course of the School of Art and Design of the University of Illinois is a comprehensive professional learning course, which encourages and supports the development of aesthetics and concepts, technical experiments and research, personal expression and technical ability. The plan recognizes and celebrates the diversity and inclusiveness of contemporary metalwork and supports the investigation of jewelry, hollow vessels, objects and small sculptures. The program addresses both traditional and new artistic production methods. Traditional methods include, but are not limited to, lifting, casting, glazing, electroforming, manufacturing, anodizing, tool manufacturing, grinding and regrinding, and granulation. New methods include, but are not limited to, 3D technology, resins, ceramics, papermaking, felting and alternative materials.

   MFA Course for Metal Jewelry Design


MFA graduate students in Metal is a 64 credit hour, three-year learning program. The courses are distributed in the following fields:


Metal courses and elective courses 52 hours


Seminar 8 hours, 2 courses


Art history 4 hours, 1 course

5. Metal jewelry design collection: Your metal jewelry design collection should show your most powerful work and convey your understanding of your creative research practice. Portfolio projects must be submitted online through an additional application process. Applicants must submit 12 to 20 media files (images and/or videos). As part of the media upload process and related to a single file, you must provide other details (title, date, media, context information, etc.). The working sample is constructed through "label media". This will help reviewers understand and appreciate your work.

1. Postgraduate scholarships: award students who highlight future potential. Scholarships for this academic year range from $10000 to $25000, including full tuition exemption and partial college campus fee exemption.


2. Postgraduate student grants: teaching assistant and research assistant positions can be used by students with good performance. At present, 25% of the graduates appointed for a nine month term provide a school year allowance of $8548.56 (before tax). Appointments require 10 hours of service per week. The appointment of these graduates includes full tuition exemption and partial college campus fee exemption.
