Will the epidemic affect studying abroad? How to plan yourself? This year, we all face the problem of the epidemic. Many students told the natural light that if it is really not possible, we will directly gap this year or wait until the end of the epidemic. However, we don't know when the epidemic will be completely over, and we can't predict the future application situation, but for the students who applied for the British graduate school in one year, they have even graduated. Since there are not a few students who have the idea of gap/giving up, the number of applicants from major universities will certainly decrease significantly this year; At the same time, although colleges and universities temporarily adjust the class mode and enrollment policy, it will not reduce the number of students enrolled. So for those students who still have dreams, the competition might be reduced this year, which is an opportunity to win the first place. In order to let them not regret but also seize the opportunity, it is better to start from now on to re plan the creation timeline, cooperate with the corresponding teaching methods, and take back the opportunities and options!
Time planning for applying for art study abroad in previous years:
From the experience of previous years, a complete set of Art study abroad The preparation period for the collection of works, from the supplementary learning of basic skills to the final adjustment of typesetting, is from June to December. According to the students' professional foundation, project difficulty, and other conflicts, the whole period will also be lengthened accordingly.
Assume that the time planning is allocated in 10 months: the first month is to supplement professional skills, software skills, arts and humanities and other related basic parts; After that, we began to prepare the portfolio project. Based on the past teaching experience of natural light, the first project belongs to the exploration stage for most students, so we try to reserve a long time to discuss topic selection, research, experiment, and supplementary learning. This cycle can be within three months;
For the second to fifth projects, students will gradually get on the right track, and the preparation time will be shortened accordingly, between 1 and 2 months; During the preparation of the portfolio, students also need to participate in social practice, background improvement projects, language examinations, document materials, portfolio review, etc.
Ten months may be sufficient in many students' cognition, but in recent years the number and quality of applicants are constantly improving. To break through the tight encirclement and reach the recognition of the target university, our preparatory application process is filled with learning tasks one by one, and it takes enough energy and time to break through.
For this year's applicants, our learning tasks have not been reduced, but because of the impact of the epidemic, most of the students' preparation time has been shortened and they are still facing the transformation of learning methods, our learning plans should also become more rigid!
Will the epidemic affect studying abroad? How to plan yourself?
Next, we will analyze how to plan and arrange the next learning tasks according to the students at different stages and with different professional foundations.
01. Weak foundation/0 Foundation
For students with zero foundation, the primary task at any stage is to supplement basic skills. Many students will greatly reduce the learning time of the basic part due to time constraints. In fact, this idea is wrong. The correct design thinking and professional skills laid in the early stage are the basis for the project development, and can also reduce the opportunities for trial and error in the later stage.
Of course, if it is for students in this application season, the learning time at this stage is not easy to be too long. The course focuses on design thinking, professional theoretical basis, and work collection process. We can continue to learn in the subsequent creation of hand painting and software operations that require a lot of time.
The current situation is a major advantage for the basic part of learning. First of all, most of the students have not started school/returned to work in an all-round way. We have much more free time than usual, and can complete systematic and high-intensity learning planning.
Secondly, the online learning method is also conducive to improving our learning efficiency. The basic humanities courses of natural light can be divided into two forms: recording and broadcasting. First, the recorded and broadcast courses include software skills, art sharing, college analysis, humanistic thinking, etc. There is no limit to time and times for such courses. Students can watch them repeatedly, digest knowledge points, and control their learning progress.
The live broadcast courses developed by the National Teaching and Research Center of Natural Light and taught by the tutors of six major departments are usually one-on-one/small class courses, which can follow up students' learning status, review difficult points and doubts at any time, and help students master learning content more efficiently.
Therefore, for students with zero foundation, in order to maintain the smooth progress of the follow-up study plan, we need to focus on completing the basic part of the study at this stage, use the advantages of online classes, quickly lay the "foundation", and prepare the ability and time for the next collection creation.
02. The major/basic part of learning has been completed
For students in this major or who have completed the basic part of their study, the task at this stage is the portfolio project. As we mentioned earlier, the first project is "difficult at the beginning" for most students. Because they are not familiar with the creation process of the work collection, they need to find new ideas and transform the professional foundation they have just mastered into real work output. Therefore, this stage needs the guidance and assistance of teachers.
In this stage of learning tasks, students must strengthen communication with professional teachers. The course form is mainly one-to-one. You can also try some online workshops and art sharing courses to inspire yourself from different dimensions, collect more materials and materials, and confirm the project theme as soon as possible.
In addition, due to many practical majors, there may be restrictions on materials and venues at this stage, and subsequent production links cannot be carried out. In order to improve the success rate and time efficiency of the work construction link, students can focus on the early research and material experiments, enrich the early details as much as possible, and ensure the completion of the project.
As a rule, we do not recommend students to carry out multiple projects in parallel. However, in the special form of this year, on the premise of ensuring learning energy and reasonable planning of learning plans, students can determine multiple topics at the same time, and carry out early inspiration collection and research at the same time.
However, considering the integrity and richness of the portfolio, students must try their best to avoid the homogenization of the project theme, and highlight their multi-dimensional ability through the depth, continuity and selection of materials of research.
03. Professional transfer (art)/expansion project in progress
Many famous art schools are exploring the boundaries of disciplines, and colleges are paying more and more attention to students' interdisciplinary creativity and critical thinking. Therefore, a reasonable and high-quality interdisciplinary project is undoubtedly an eye-catching bonus item in the work collection.
Whether for Application for interdisciplinary art study abroad Students who are still engaged in interdisciplinary projects, how to integrate different professional disciplines to create new sparks and develop their own personal style is the focus of learning at this stage.
In the previous learning process, students have basically mastered the design process and learning methods through basic learning and the construction of the first and second projects, and have also established the ability to complete the design project. At this time, how to further expand the depth of the project and show their own thinking ability is our learning direction.
So at this stage, in addition to the one-to-one format, we can also add some online forums, artist sharing, interdisciplinary workshops, etc. to expand our information access channels, communicate with students and teachers in different disciplines, and stimulate our inspiration and creativity.
Secondly, after class, professional teachers also need to guide students to conduct a lot of research and experiments, and gradually deduce the project prototype in the process of repeated deliberation and deepening. Relatively speaking, the learning tasks at this stage are more suitable for students who have a relatively sufficient preparation period, or who want to challenge famous schools, should also have higher requirements for themselves.
04. Professional transfer (non art)/background improvement stage
The impact of the epidemic on portfolio courses and professional learning has been remedied to a large extent through the opening and back-end maintenance of a series of interactive online courses. However, it is difficult to carry out social practices, background improvement projects, documents, etc., which are as important as the collection of works.
This year, many summer schools, summer camps and internship projects selected by students were also cancelled due to the epidemic, and the high gold content background improvement projects are particularly scarce. Especially for applicants with non artistic backgrounds, it is crucial to prove their artistic attainments from other dimensions in document materials in addition to their works.
The natural light also sees the special period, and students need stronger support, so they are also trying to upgrade the courses and supporting services as much as possible. We recently launched the "double teacher" class, which is online led by a number of popular professional admissions officers from famous schools. After two months of immersive experience of famous school classes, we can not only produce highly competitive portfolio projects efficiently, but also have many opportunities to obtain famous teacher recommendation letters, which solves a variety of application problems at one time, and greatly improves the learning efficiency.
Next, we will continue to gather the advantageous resources accumulated over the years, rely on overseas alliance teams and British and American campuses, link more colleges, admissions officers and brands, and bring more resources and practice opportunities to students through the online model.
Above, we will take four types of students with different professional foundations and learning tasks as examples to analyze whether the epidemic will affect their study abroad? How to plan yourself? Through objective and calm analysis, the obstacles caused by the epidemic to our learning at this stage can basically be solved by changing learning methods and planning learning strategies. The epidemic is not an excuse for us to be "idle" at home, nor an excuse for forcing us to give up our dreams. Leave your island, put down your switch, start your study plan, and control your real life!
