Metal is an active research field, and jewelry covers a wide range. It also involves various ideas, objects, images and model manufacturing. The jewelry design project of the State University of New York is sponsored by Professor Myra Mimlitsch Gray, including Michael Gaglinn Bachild as an outstanding teacher and Jamie Bennett as an honorary professor. Strict courses provide opportunities to explore technology, aesthetics, and concepts. Contemporary jewelry and metal manufacturing are taught by jewelry design teachers in one of the most advanced teaching facilities in New Palz, New York University. Students of jewelry design in New Palz, New York University actively participate in artist exhibitions and international speeches.

BFA metal program gives students the opportunity to work in a first-class teaching institution. Teachers are artists who actively participate in international exhibitions and speeches. The rigorous curriculum explores the technical, aesthetic and conceptual aspects of contemporary jewelry and metalworking. The course work is supplemented by field visits and professional meetings.


   State University of New York Jewelry Design Graduate Program


The Master of Fine Arts degree is a full-time two-year course. On the basis of personal research interests and undergraduate experience, postgraduate study of metals at SUNYNewPaltz is a self guided inquiry and action course to cultivate responsibility, self-reliance and confidence.


With advanced facilities and teachers' extensive knowledge and support, students elaborated on their own research and interests to develop a critical, self reflective creative practice.


   Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry Design


The jewelry design course is taught by Myra Mimlitsch Gray, including Michael Geck and Lynn Bachild as outstanding teachers.


The rigorous curriculum explores all aspects of technical, aesthetic, and conceptual contemporary jewelry and metal manufacturing. The course work is supplemented by field visits and professional meetings. Since the college is close to the main cultural center, jewelry students can often visit museums and expos.


Jewelry design students actively participate in the Student Art Alliance, which supports visiting artists, conferences and other creative projects, and creates more opportunities for interdisciplinary exchanges.


BFA Jewelry Design undergraduate course provides students with the opportunity to work in an advanced facility with faculty who actively participate in artists who exhibit and speak internationally. BFAS also benefited from a part of the project, one of the largest and highly valued metal graduate courses in the country.

   Jewelry design collection requirements:


Interested undergraduate students with a bachelor's degree in metal art must provide a portfolio of project works in order to enter the program.


Internal students come to the interview, which is usually conducted before the registration of the preparatory course next semester. Applicants must have taken one or more metal courses in NewPaltz before applying for the course.


External transfer students submit their slide portfolio, and they often come to campus for interviews. The position arrangement in the project is determined by the transcript and transcript, which is obvious in the collection of jewelry design project works. Generally speaking, the metal part of the entire learning plan takes two years to complete.

        Metal jewelry studio facilities:


It provides students with a wide range of technical opportunities. The 10000 square foot metal studio is fully equipped and can adapt to most of the practice of manual metal manufacturing and jewelry making, from the fine processing of precious metals to larger scale, forming and welding structures. The program includes a digital laboratory to provide standard support for graphic design and output. We have introduced computer-aided design and manufacturing - three-dimensional digital technology, which will continue to expand the scope of our metal professional studio survey.


The main room consists of a large and open workspace, which includes forming and forging tools and general machinery, such as band saws, drilling machines, shears, rolling mills and grinding tools.


Next to this space is the task room, each of which is designed for specific processes, such as polishing, casting, electroforming, etching and repairing, molding, laser cutting, blacksmith manufacturing and seminars/reviews.


The separate BFA and MFA rooms can accommodate all professionals, and are equipped with welding stations (oxygen/propane, acetylene and compressed air), smoke hoods, water tanks, workstations and storage spaces. Next to the studio is a basic room, including a large room. Enamel elective students and regions and stations just starting to study metal.


The State University of New York New Paltz Master of Fine Arts degree program is a 60 hour program specializing in ceramics, metals, painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture. Our MFA project maintains an excellent tradition, including advanced artists, historians, critics and curators. State University of New York New Palz is often listed as one of the best schools in the Northeast, and its metal projects and jewelry design have been rated as the best school in the country.
