Mary Johnson is currently teaching at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and the high school affiliated to Renmin University. Her main job is to help Chinese students study abroad to apply for their first year in overseas universities or transfer to the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia. He has rich experience in student interviews, personal statement writing guidance, college application strategies, and the preparation and presentation of work collections. Students in CAFA and RDFZ have been admitted to many arts and non arts majors, including the School of Visual Arts, Columbia University, George Washington University, London University of the Arts, Rhode Island School of Design Art Institute of Chicago RMIT、 Maryland College of Creative Arts, University of California, Davis and Parsons School of Design.

Jonathan Ma is a sculptor and architect from Los Angeles, California, USA. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design He has obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture and a bachelor's degree in fine arts for five years. In China, Ma Qingtian was responsible for the design of architectural structure, landscape, interior and planning in China Architectural Design and Research Institute and Wang Shu Architecture Studio. He was once engaged in research work and teaching architectural courses in China Academy of Fine Arts. Jonathan Ma is now an independent architectural designer with many high-end private space design cases.


Can architecture be used by people, practicality first, sculpture communication first, and concept first coexist? How to recognize their boundaries? The workshop activity aims to challenge students' understanding and cognition of the two concepts of "sculpture" and "architecture". Students will be asked to come up with their own definitions for these two words. Students are encouraged to create sculpture models using a variety of materials and methods, and then challenge them to introduce architectural elements into sculpture and transform it from sculpture to architecture. Under the theme of applying for studying abroad, the key of this workshop is to explore "proportion" and "function" through sculpture and architecture, so that students can exert their creativity.


In Lecture, Jonathan Ma will share the introduction of the projects he has participated in, and talk about how to spread the thinking mode of design in the study of architecture major in combination with RISD's experience in reading and working.

The workshop activity aims to stimulate students' imagination, deepen their understanding of the relationship between design and life through preliminary understanding of technology and materials, and thus train students' sense of scale of architectural space. Melissa Best has specialized in the field of visual effects synthesis in the film and television, graphic design and game industries for 18 years. With this background, she has assisted and guided many industry practitioners, including large company studios and rapidly developing boutique independent studios. She has been engaged in and served as a senior consultant of post synthesis VFX in large production companies and a visual effects teacher in major universities for 14 years. Melissa is good at supervising and training large professional teams. She has had the experience of supervising 65 large special effects teams with different qualifications and professional standards. He has also led the post production of special effects in films such as Alice in Wonderland 2: Adventures in the Mirror, Iron Man 3, Hunger Game 2, and Fantastic Forest. Melissa is currently on the advisory board of Vancouver "Entertainment Arts Center".

Animation and VFX special effects include VFX post production and visual effects, character models and animation history, environment/prop models, traditional animation and 3D character animation. Game development includes AAA game engine architecture, video game script writing, mannequin production and skeleton binding, environment modeling, etc.
